TRI-COUNTY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB MEETING MINUTES

May 7, 2010

The Tri-County Amateur Radio Club (TCARC) held a meeting this morning at the Paul’s (WD8RJR) in Delphos, Ohio. The meeting was at 9:00am as per e-mail notification.

Members in attendance: Bob (W8ULM), Jim (W8BHA), Jim (KC8BGI), Dylan (KD8MTI), Bonnie (KB8YXP), Larry (KI8CP), Tom (KH6ILT), Greg (KB8DEW), Paul (WD8RJR)

Financial Report: Currently there is $682.40 in our account (KC8BGI bought club ICOM-735 for $300.00 and dues from last meeting were $170.00)

Old Business:

·       Wednesday night nets are at 8:00pm during the summer

·       Jim (W8BHA) will still be listing our equipment that is for sale and we hope to get that on the web as soon as possible.

New Business:

·       Peony parade is June 5th. If you are interested in working, contact Ziggy (KA8ZGE) or check in on the repeater.

·       Field Day: We will not be doing this with the Lima group this year. They invited us to come over and help if we want to, but they did not want to join the two clubs together for the event. The group discussed moving it for this year just because we are looking for more exposure to the residents in Delphos and the surrounding area. We talked about going out to the reservoir but there were many issues with the noise level for the neighbors, etc. We then discussed the site at First and Pierce St. which is the former site of the Delphos manufacturing facility. It is now an empty lot. The group made a motion to go ahead and try this out. Jim (W8BHA) will test some of the radios over there and see if we get into the bingo speakers at St. Johns. This year we will not be concerned about the number of contacts. We will use 1 tower, 1 inverted vee, and we will set up the gazebo. Operators are encouraged to just get on for a little while or as long as they want. We are looking for anyone interested in helping out. If this site does not work out, we will ask Albert if we can still use the Outpost. We want to let Albert and Lisa know that we are extremely appreciative of everything they do for us and for allowing us to use their site every year. We are planning to go back to the Outpost eventually even if we stay in Delphos this year. We are just looking for a change of pace and see if we can drum up some interest in Amateur radio. Between now and about 10 days before Field Day, we will see if we have enough operators. If not, we will cancel the event for our club. Paul will let us use his new laptop and Bob (W8ULM) will let us use his Kenwood 440. Field Day is June 26th and 27th.

·       The trailer has been moved from Andy’s sisters house to Bonnie and Larry’s grandsons house. There was a lot of discussion about keeping the trailer or getting rid of it. The club felt that we should get rid of it because we don’t use it at all.

·       Bob mentioned that DL9YAV, Rainer Jaekel from Germany would like to get on the air with a bunch of us.

·       St. Mary’s repeater is no longer in use.

Meeting adjourned at 9:55am
